Light

Statment

The boundary blurs between the flowers I see and the flowers I remember.

Light blurs the boundary, making it vague, and gradually the picture becomes flat.

As a child I looked at the paintings of impressionists. In high school the first oil painting I copied was a Monet. In the light, I felt forms blend together and become ambiguous. I would take out my canvas and paint in amongst the surrounding nature. In the light. Feeling the wind envelope me. The shimmer of light flickering as it moves. Sharp light. Dull light. Soft light. Changing impressions.

A fleeting instant of light that moves the heart. For every one of these mesmerising episodes of light I click my shutter. The overlapping photo montage is a scattering of light from the past. Time is a continuation of points of light. The stars we see are light from hundreds of millions of years previous.

At first there was a single light. Points of light through time are condensed into one space, returning them to a single light. Lights fuse together, becoming 2-dimensional, achieving order within that space, harmonizing.

The mind not made up achieves neutrality. From a single point 360 degrees are visible. There is a freedom to go where one chooses. When creating, I don’t wish to control everything, I choose to leave a place for coincidence.

Like the stars that spread throughout the cosmos.
